Strategic Intervention in Kaduna Power Infrastructure

The successful restoration of electricity to the Rigasa community in the Igabi local government area of Kaduna State stands as a pivotal development in the nation’s power sector. After enduring years of debilitating outages, over three million residents have been reconnected to the national grid, an achievement credited to the strategic oversight of Jennifer Adighije at the Niger Delta Power Holding Company. According to Bamidele Atoyebi, convener of the BAT Ideological Group, this project has not only ended a prolonged period of darkness but has served as a catalyst for reviving dormant economic activities within the region.

Fiscal Reforms and Port Logistics Optimization

Beyond physical infrastructure, the NDPHC has reported substantial financial recoveries and logistical breakthroughs through aggressive administrative reforms. A major highlight of this tenure involves the clearance of 110 stranded containers at Onne Port in Rivers State, a move that reportedly saved the company more than N20 billion in customs duties and accumulated port charges. These operational improvements are being framed as part of a broader effort to eliminate waste, with the introduction of digital inventory systems further reducing procurement costs and enhancing the transparency of the agency’s internal supply chain.

Boosting the National Grid Through Unit Restoration

The agency’s impact on national energy security has been bolstered by the successful repair and restoration of critical generating units across the country. Specifically, the recovery of two units in Calabar and Omotosho has contributed approximately 230 megawatts to the national grid, providing a much needed boost to the country's total power output. This technical resurgence is accompanied by a new focus on price benchmarking, with the creation of a specialized desk to ensure that all future procurement processes align with market realities and fiscal responsibility.
