Allegations of Intimidation at Ikoyi High Court

A legal dispute within the P-Square musical family has spilled over into a conflict with the media. The Nigerian Association of Social and Resourceful Editors (NASRE) has formally called on Afrobeat singer Peter Okoye to withdraw a threatening remark allegedly directed at Mr. Bayo Adetu, a member of the association's directorate. The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, April 20, 2026, within the premises of the Ikoyi High Court, where proceedings are ongoing regarding the dispute between Peter, his twin brother Paul, and their elder brother Jude Okoye.

"I Will Set You Up" – The Alleged Confrontation

According to a statement released by NASRE President Comrade Femi Oyewale, eyewitnesses observed Peter Okoye confronting Adetu following the court session. The association alleges that the singer pointed out the journalist’s presence before making the specific threat: “You, Bayo, I will set you up.” NASRE characterized this language as "intimidating and unacceptable," particularly as it was directed at a professional journalist performing his lawful duties in a public court of law.

Accountability and Member Safety

NASRE has emphasized that the safety of its members and their families is a non-negotiable priority. In a strongly worded warning, the association stated that should any harm come to Mr. Adetu or his relatives, they will hold Peter Okoye directly accountable. The group urged the singer to issue a public apology and retract the statement immediately to avoid further escalation. The association noted that while they respect the artistic contributions of the Okoye family, such contributions do not grant immunity from professional and legal conduct.
