Discovery of Body Near the Cumberland River

The Kentucky State Police (KSP) initiated a formal death investigation on Monday afternoon following the discovery of a deceased male along the banks of the Cumberland River. Responding to a call near the terminus of McKinney Road in Lyon County, authorities located the remains of 37-year-old Darrien M. Young. The discovery brings a grim conclusion to a missing person search that had spanned several weeks and crossed state lines between Kentucky and Tennessee.

The Abandoned Vehicle on the I-24 Bridge

The investigation into Young’s whereabouts originally began on March 13, when law enforcement located an abandoned 2018 red Dodge Charger. The vehicle was found stationary on the Interstate 24 Cumberland River bridge, prompting immediate concerns regarding the driver's safety. At the time, KSP Post 1 initiated a missing person protocol and sought assistance from regional partners to identify and locate the registered owner of the vehicle.

A Gruesome Discovery in a Nashville Residence

As part of the search for Young, the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) was requested to conduct a welfare check at a residence associated with the abandoned Dodge Charger. Upon entering the home, Nashville officers discovered a deceased female. Following the processing of that scene, investigators identified Young as the primary suspect in the woman's murder, leading to an active warrant for his arrest and a shift in the nature of the missing person case.
