Opposition to Hand-Picked Candidacy

Internal tensions within the Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have surfaced as a pressure group, the Nasarawa APC Integrity Forum, issued a public warning to Senator Ahmed Wadada. In a joint statement released on April 23, 2026, spokespersons Zamani Daniel and Ibrahim Tukur accused the Senator representing Nasarawa West of attempting to leverage his high-level connections to gain an "undue advantage" in the 2027 governorship race. The group expressed dismay over claims that Wadada would be "hand-picked" for the party’s ticket, effectively bypassing a competitive democratic process.

Advocating for Direct Primaries

The Integrity Forum reminded all aspirants that party stakeholders have officially adopted the direct primary model for the upcoming selection process. This mechanism ensures that the power to nominate the governorship flagbearer rests exclusively with the card-carrying members of the APC in Nasarawa. The group argued that any move toward a "consensus" or "hand-picked" candidate would disenfranchise the grassroots base and weaken the party's democratic standing ahead of the general election.

A Call for Merit-Based Campaigning

"Anyone who thinks he is popular enough should market himself to the people," the Forum stated. The group urged Senator Wadada and other contenders to focus on presenting their visions and qualifications to the electorate rather than resorting to "crooked means" for endorsements. They emphasized that a healthy democracy requires a level playing field where all qualified citizens can pursue their political aspirations without fear of bullying or administrative hindrance.
