Violence Erupts At Hazeldene Taxi Rank

The community of Mitchells Plain experienced a traumatic afternoon on Tuesday following a mass shooting at the Hazeldene taxi rank. Just before 3pm, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a group of people, resulting in the immediate deaths of two young men aged 20 and 22. Medical personnel declared both victims deceased at the scene, while the shooters fled immediately after the attack.

Children Caught In The Crossfire

Five other individuals sustained injuries during the taxi rank incident, including three children who were caught in the hail of bullets. The wounded include a six year old girl and two boys, aged 12 and 13, along with two adult males. All five survivors were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment as police began cordoning off the area for forensic analysis.

Believed Gang Related Hit In Portlands

In a separate but nearly simultaneous incident in the Portlands area, a 26 year old man was fatally shot on Merrydale Street. Witnesses reported that the suspects fired multiple times at the victim before escaping the scene in a getaway vehicle. Authorities have indicated that this specific attack is believed to be gang related, further heightening tensions within the Cape Flats.
