The Search for Grace Kanyeria
A family in Kagayu village, Ruring'u Ward, is mourning the tragic end of a four-day search for their daughter. Grace Kanyeria, a Form Three student, was reported missing on Tuesday, March 10, after she failed to return home from school. Her brother, Martin Mwangi, revealed to TUKO.co.ke that the family initially contacted Riamukurwe Secondary School, only to learn that Grace had never reported for classes that morning, despite leaving home in her uniform.
Discovery of the Body
The mystery of her disappearance took a grim turn on Saturday, March 14, when police directed the family to the Nyeri Provincial Hospital (PGH) morgue. There, Mwangi identified his sister's body, which had been listed as an unidentified person. Because she had reportedly changed into casual clothes and left her uniform with a third party before the incident, she carried no school ID or documents to confirm her identity at the time of admission.
Circumstances of the Accident
Preliminary investigations suggest that Kanyeria was involved in a road accident near "Meeting Point" while traveling from Nyeri town. She was reportedly knocked down by a matatu while crossing the road. In a tragic irony, the driver who struck her is believed to be the same individual who rushed her to the hospital. She was pronounced dead on arrival, suffering from severe injuries to her head, mouth, and nose.
