A Testimony of Survival in Ogba
In a moving thanksgiving session at the Christian Liberty Africa Ministry (CLAM), Shofumi Adepoju recounted the harrowing moments her twin sons faced during the collapse of Yemco Schools. The incident, which occurred on Monday, March 9, 2026, on Adu Street in Ogba, has sparked widespread discussion on school safety in Lagos. Ms. Adepoju revealed that her sons were still inside the school's Introtech laboratory while the rest of the building was being emptied, unaware of the structural failure occurring around them.
The Two-Minute Window to Safety
According to the mother’s account, the twins only realized the danger when one of them peered out of the laboratory window and saw a massive crowd gathered outside the school gates. Realizing they were alone in the building, the boys sprinted downstairs. They reportedly exited the four-story structure just two minutes before it came crashing down. The boys later insisted on attending church to express their gratitude, telling their mother, “Mummy, we must come to CLAM to say thank you, Lord.”
Heroic Intervention Saves 368 Students
The absence of casualties in what could have been a national tragedy is being attributed to the quick thinking of a woman identified as "Mummy Akudayo." Witnesses and parents have lauded her for successfully marching 368 students out of the vibrating building before the final collapse. Viral videos of the incident captured the terrifying moments just before the fall, showing a window frame dropping from the facade as the last group of students fled to the street.
