Emergency Search Conducted at Carrollwood Care Facility

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) initiated an emergency response on April 7 after a threatening phone call was placed to The Colonnade at Carrollwood. According to official reports, the caller claimed an explosive device had been planted inside the assisted living facility before abruptly terminating the call. Deputies and specialized units arrived on-site to conduct a comprehensive sweep of the building; however, the search concluded with no explosives or credible threats located, allowing the facility to return to normal operations.

Interstate Investigation Identifies Former Resident as Suspect

Following the false report, HCSO detectives launched a digital and telephonic investigation to trace the origin of the call. The investigation identified the caller as Alexander Lufriu, 33, a former resident of Hillsborough County who had since relocated to Scott County, Minnesota. By coordinating with regional law enforcement, detectives were able to track Lufriu’s location to the city of Prior Lake, establishing a clear link between the Minnesota resident and the disruptive call made to the Florida facility.

Apprehension and Extradition Proceedings in Scott County

On April 8, just one day after the incident, officers with the Prior Lake Police Department in Minnesota took Lufriu into custody without incident. The arrest was executed on behalf of Florida authorities, who have been working to address the surge in "swatting" and hoax threats across the region. Lufriu is currently being held as the legal process for his return to Florida begins, where he will face the formal charges stemming from the Hillsborough County investigation.
