High-Profile Exits from the Hard Rock Stadium
As the tennis world prepares to transition from Indian Wells to the Hard Rock Stadium, the Miami Open field is undergoing a dramatic reshuffle. A total of 13 players have now pulled out of the combined WTA/ATP 1000 event, which is scheduled to begin main draw play on Tuesday, March 17. The list of withdrawals includes five women who have previously been ranked in the world's top 10, significantly impacting the depth of the women's singles draw.
Czech Contingent Leads WTA Withdrawals
A trio of decorated Czech stars headline the newest additions to the withdrawal list. Karolina Pliskova, a former World No. 1, and Grand Slam winners Marketa Vondrousova and Barbora Krejcikova will all miss the second leg of the "Sunshine Double." They are joined by Daria Kasatkina and Veronika Kudermetova, both of whom have held career-high rankings inside the top 10. The highest-ranked player to withdraw remains World No. 37 Lois Boisson, who has been sidelined by injury since September.
ATP Field Sees Early Departures
On the men's side, the withdrawal count stands at five, with no new names added since Thursday. Holger Rune and Tallon Griekspoor are the most notable absences for the ATP; both were projected to be seeded participants had they remained in the draw. They are joined on the sidelines by Jaume Munar, Lorenzo Sonego, and Jerry Shang, the latter of whom had entered the tournament using a protected ranking.
