Violence Erupts on Public Transit
Wallingford authorities have taken a Meriden man into custody following a violent physical altercation on a CTtransit bus that left one person wounded. On Monday morning, emergency dispatchers received multiple calls reporting a stabbing in progress near the intersection of North Colony Road and Old North Colony Road. According to initial witness reports, callers suggested that a weapon had been drawn during a heated dispute among passengers. Upon arrival, Wallingford officers found a victim suffering from a stab wound to the leg, though the primary suspect had already fled the immediate area on foot.
A Chain of Events Leading to the Assault
The investigation into the incident revealed that the violence was preceded by an argument between the suspect and a woman on the bus. According to Wallingford police, an unidentified female struck the suspect during the verbal exchange, prompting the victim to intervene in the situation. The specific motives behind the victim’s involvement remain under investigation, but it was during this intervention that the suspect allegedly produced a sharp object and stabbed the passenger. Despite early reports from witnesses suggesting the presence of a firearm, a thorough sweep by responding officers confirmed that no guns were found at the scene or on the suspect’s person.
Apprehension and Legal Charges for the Suspect
Following a brief search of the surrounding neighborhood, officers located the suspect, identified as 56-year-old Timothy Scott, near Yale Avenue. Scott was arrested without further incident and transported to police headquarters for processing. According to the department, Scott has been formally charged with second degree assault and second degree breach of peace. The victim, whose identity has not been released by authorities, was provided with medical attention and is expected to recover from the non-life-threatening injury to the leg.
