New Redundancies Hit Canadian Studio
Piranha Games is once again facing internal downsizing as reports of fresh layoffs surfaced via LinkedIn on April 2, 2026. Displaced workers from the Vancouver-based studio indicated that the cuts have impacted a wide range of specialties, including software engineering, level design, environment art, technical art, and VFX. One affected employee cited "economic restructuring" as the primary driver behind the studio's latest reduction in force.
Failure to Meet Sales Targets
This recent development follows a difficult start to the year for Piranha Games. In January 2026, parent company Enad Global 7 (EG7) initiated a "business operation plan" that resulted in 38 layoffs at the studio. At that time, EG7 CEO Ji Ham noted that despite the high quality of work, MechWarrior 5: Clans had failed to expand its core audience or reach the sales targets necessary to sustain previous staffing levels. The latest round of cuts suggests that the studio's financial pressures have persisted beyond the initial restructuring phase.
Broader Volatility Within EG7
The struggles at Piranha Games are mirrored across the EG7 portfolio. During the same January restructuring, the Swedish firm also announced the complete closure of Toadman Interactive. That decision was attributed to an inability to secure new work-for-hire contracts in an increasingly challenging industry landscape. EG7, which originally acquired Piranha Games for $24.1 million in late 2020, appears to be aggressively consolidating its resources to navigate current market headwinds.
