Defendant Abandons Trial Before Final Verdict

The 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office has launched an emergency search for Jorge Campos after the Castle Rock man disappeared on the final day of his criminal trial. Campos, who was under court-ordered electronic monitoring, allegedly cut off his ankle bracelet to evade the looming legal consequences of his actions. Investigators recovered the tracking device in a dumpster near the suspect's residence, confirming a deliberate attempt to flee the jurisdiction. Despite his flight, the court proceeded with the legal process, and a Douglas County jury returned a guilty verdict on all counts late Friday.

Violent Details of Multi-Year Assault Allegations

The criminal case against Campos dates back to 2024, involving accusations of repeated sexual violence against the daughter of his then-girlfriend. The prosecution presented evidence that the assaults began in 2021 when the victim was only 11 years old and continued for several years. During the four-day trial, the young victim provided testimony regarding the trauma she endured, which was bolstered by forensic medical examinations that confirmed physical evidence of victimization. Deputy District Attorney Brynn Chase commended the survivor’s strength, noting that she faced "unimaginable trauma" to ensure the case reached the jury.

Severe Sentencing and Mandatory Prison Time

Under Colorado law, the five counts of sexual assault on a child carry mandatory prison sentences, often resulting in indeterminate life terms for habitual or aggravated offenders. District Attorney George Brauchler characterized Campos as a "gutless predator" who preyed upon a child within his own domestic circle before fleeing accountability. Because the conviction was reached in his absence, a warrant has been issued for his immediate arrest. If captured, Campos faces a penalty that could reach the maximum allowed under state law due to the predatory nature of the crimes and his subsequent flight from the court.
