Enforcement Unit Intercepts Contraband at Johor Checkpoint
The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency, or AKPS, successfully disrupted an attempt to smuggle a significant shipment of liquor through the Sultan Iskandar Building. During a routine operation on April 9, enforcement officers flagged a commercial van arriving from Singapore. The vehicle had entered Malaysia via the bus driver lane, a route typically restricted to authorized personnel. Upon stopping the vehicle at approximately 3:20 p.m., officers initiated a detailed inspection that led to the discovery of high-value undeclared goods intended for the local black market.
Suspicious Passenger Activity Triggers Vehicle Search
The initial suspicion of the enforcement unit was raised when they observed a passenger seated next to the driver, violating strict lane restrictions that permit only drivers. According to an official statement from the agency’s corporate communications unit, both the driver and the passenger, local men aged 38 and 43, were uncooperative during the primary questioning. The suspects reportedly remained silent and refused to provide documentation or justification for their presence in the restricted lane, prompting the agency to conduct a thorough search of the vehicle's cargo area.
Concealed Cargo Uncovered Beneath Black Cloth
The search of the commercial van revealed several large boxes strategically hidden under a black cloth to avoid visual detection during a cursory glance. Upon opening the containers, authorities found a total of 888 bottles of liquor. The combined volume of the seized alcohol reached approximately 700 liters. Investigators believe the shipment was part of an organized smuggling effort designed to bypass mandatory import duties. The illicit cargo and the vehicle have since been documented as evidence in the ongoing investigation into the cross-border syndicate.
