Detentions and Judicial Orders

The Lebanese army intercepted and detained twelve armed Hezbollah members at a security checkpoint on Tuesday according to local media reports. This enforcement action coincides with a directive from Judge Claude Ghanem, the Government Commissioner to the Military Court, who has ordered the pursuit of individuals involved in launching rockets and drones from Lebanese territory toward Israel. Security measures have been significantly tightened in the Sidon district, specifically at the Msayleh and Awali checkpoints, where military personnel are conducting rigorous inspections of vehicles traveling to and from southern Lebanon.

Government Ban on Military Activity

In a significant shift in domestic policy, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has announced a formal ban on all security and military activities conducted by Hezbollah. Under this new executive mandate, the group is required to confine its operations strictly to the political sphere. This decision follows a period of heightened hostilities and repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement originally established in November 2024. Hezbollah has not yet issued an official comment regarding the detention of its members or the government’s efforts to restrict its paramilitary functions.

Casualties and Displacement Crisis

The humanitarian situation in Lebanon has deteriorated rapidly as the number of displaced persons reached 29,000 this week. Social Affairs Minister Haneen Sayed confirmed that these individuals are currently distributed across 171 shelters located throughout various Lebanese regions. The displacement follows a series of Israeli airstrikes that killed at least 40 people and left nearly 250 others injured on Monday. These strikes were reportedly launched in response to Hezbollah targeting a military site in northern Israel earlier in the week.
