The Stakes: A Direct Path to MSI
First Stand 2026 has introduced a high-pressure incentive that reshapes the mid-season landscape of professional League of Legends. The champion of this March tournament secures two direct berths for their home region at the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI), allowing those teams to bypass the Play-In stage entirely. This reward has transformed what was once an early-season exhibition into a critical strategic battle with long-term seeding implications. As the meta begins to solidify around the new "Fearless Draft" format, the event serves as the first global litmus test for regional dominance.
Expanded Field: Powerhouses from the East
In a departure from previous years, the 2026 format has been expanded to include both finalists from the LCK Cup (Korea) and LPL Split 1 (China). This adjustment brings additional firepower to the tournament, featuring Korea’s dominant Gen.G and the aggressive BNK FearX, alongside China’s Bilibili Gaming and JD Gaming. These eastern giants are joined by regional champions G2 Esports (LEC), LYON (LCS), Team Secret Whales (LCP), and LOUD (CBLOL). With no returning champions from the 2025 event, the field is guaranteed to crown a new international victor.
Tournament Format and Venue
The competition is held from March 16 to March 22 at the Riot Games Arena in São Paulo, Brazil. Every series throughout the Group and Knockout stages is played as a best-of-five (Bo5), a choice made by Riot Games to allow for deeper adaptation and to showcase the versatility of team rosters under the season's new drafting rules. Following a five-day Group Stage, the top-performing teams will advance to a single-elimination Knockout Stage, culminating in the Grand Finals on Sunday, March 22.
