Ministerial Oversight of Strategic Power Upgrades
Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Energy, Taalaibek Ibraev, recently conducted a high-level site visit to the Jyrgalan region to evaluate the progress of electrification efforts for the Ala-Too Resort. This ski complex is currently under construction and represents a significant pillar of the nation’s tourism development strategy. During the inspection, Ibraev scrutinized the technical readiness of the 35/10 kV Tri Vershiny substation and the 35/6 kV Jyrgalan substation. These facilities are critical nodes in the regional power grid, intended to provide the high-voltage capacity necessary to operate a modern resort of this scale.
Strengthening Regional Infrastructure and Logistics
Beyond the immediate electrical requirements of the resort, the Ministry of Energy is focusing on the operational efficiency of local utility providers. Minister Ibraev visited the newly constructed building of the Jyrgalan electric grid section, where he issued instructions to review current staffing levels to meet increased demand. To bolster the technical capabilities of the local workforce, Ibraev pledged to provide the Ak-Suu Electric Networks with new service vehicles. This logistical support is designed to ensure that maintenance teams can respond rapidly to potential grid disruptions in the remote, mountainous terrain surrounding the resort.
Harnessing Renewable Energy via Local Hydropower
A central component of the electrification effort is the construction of the Jyrgalan Hydropower Plant, which the minister personally reviewed during his visit. By integrating local hydroelectric generation, the ministry aims to create a sustainable and self-sufficient energy ecosystem for the Ala-Too Resort. Ibraev received detailed updates on the implementation schedule, emphasizing that the project aligns with the broader national goal of diversifying energy sources. This focus on green energy infrastructure reflects a strategic move to power high-growth tourism projects without placing undue strain on the existing national grid.
