Fatal Complications in Critical Care
The death toll from the mass shooting in Kyiv’s Holosiivsky district has risen to seven after a critically wounded victim died in a local hospital on Monday, April 20, 2026. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced the passing via Telegram, stating that the man had been in extremely serious condition since the attack occurred on Saturday. Despite intensive surgical efforts and the best possible medical intervention, doctors were unable to stabilize the patient, whose identity was held as the latest casualty in the capital’s deadliest civilian shooting in recent years.
Medical Status of Surviving Victims
Seven additional victims of the April 18 violence remain under constant medical supervision in the capital's specialized healthcare facilities. According to regional health reports, the survivors include one child and six adults, four of whom are currently fighting for their lives in intensive care units. Two other patients are being treated in the polytrauma department for complex injuries sustained during the attacker's spree. Mayor Klitschko emphasized that all necessary medical resources have been mobilized to support the survivors, though the condition of those in intensive care remains unstable.
Chronology of the Holosiivsky Rampage
The tragedy unfolded in the Demiivka neighborhood on Saturday afternoon, beginning with a domestic dispute that escalated into a public mass shooting. The perpetrator reportedly initiated the violence by shooting a neighbor with a rubber bullet pistol before retreating to his apartment to set it ablaze. Armed with a legally registered KelTec SUB-2000 carbine, he then emerged to fire indiscriminately at pedestrians and shoppers on the street. The violence culminated in a hostage situation at a local Velmart supermarket, where the suspect barricaded himself for approximately 40 minutes before being neutralized by police.
