Prominent Leaders Arrive for Strategic Talks

The political atmosphere in Ibadan, Oyo State, intensified on Saturday as key figures from various opposition parties arrived for a highly anticipated National Summit. Former Kano State Governor and NNPP presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, confirmed his arrival via social media, expressing readiness for "meaningful engagements" with other national leaders. Joining him are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and former Deputy Governor of Kano State Nasir Yusuf Gawuna. The event, hosted by Governor Seyi Makinde of the PDP, represents a rare gathering of leadership from across the PDP, NNPP, APC (dissenting factions), and ADC.

Allegations of State Sponsored Disruptions

As the summit commenced, the opposition coalition issued a stern warning regarding alleged attempts by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to sabotage the meeting. Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, claimed that the group had previously been denied access to meeting venues in Abuja. He further alleged that fresh efforts were being made to frustrate the Ibadan gathering, characterizing the moves as a "pattern of interference" intended to stifle democratic dissent and weaken the opposition’s ability to organize.

Coalition Building for the 2027 Cycle

The summit is widely seen as the first formal step toward a grand alliance aimed at the 2027 general elections. By bringing together heavyweights like Kwankwaso, Atiku, and Amaechi under the roof of a PDP governor, the opposition is signaling a shift toward a consolidated "third force" or a unified coalition ticket. Discussions are expected to center on electoral reforms, national security, and economic stability, as well as resolving internal leadership crises within parties like the ADC to ensure a stable platform for the upcoming electoral cycle.
