Emergency Closure Following Southern Bypass Collision
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has implemented an immediate temporary closure of a critical section of the Nairobi Southern Bypass. According to KeNHA Director General Luka Kimeli, the decision was necessitated by a road traffic accident that occurred on Friday morning. The closure specifically affects the Ole Sereni bound lanes between the Thogoto and Dagoretti Interchanges near Karinde. Authority officials have warned of significant traffic delays along this stretch as emergency teams work to clear the site and restore safe passage for commuters.
Alternative Routes for Affected Motorists
To mitigate the impact of the Southern Bypass closure, KeNHA has provided specific guidance for drivers currently navigating the area or planning trips. Motorists who have not yet set off are encouraged to utilize the Kikuyu, Mutuini, and Dagoretti (C63 Road) as a primary alternative. Traffic marshals and enforcement officers have been deployed to the site to manage the flow of vehicles. Kimeli emphasized that road users should cooperate fully with these officials while clearance operations continue round the clock to normalize traffic conditions.
Oloolua Forest Run Forces Saturday Traffic Shift
In a separate development, the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has scheduled a temporary shutdown of a section of Ngong Road for Saturday, April 25. The closure is slated to begin at 6:00 am and conclude at 11:00 am to accommodate the annual Oloolua Forest Run 2026. This environmental advocacy event will impact traffic from Embubul Junction through the Tamfeed/Gataka Junction, extending to the SGR Bridge on Olkeri Road. KeRRA has issued a public notice to ensure that regular commuters are aware of the five hour disruption ahead of the weekend event.
