Inaugural Sports Initiative Targets Inclusive Youth Development

The Katsina State Sports Council has officially announced the commencement of the maiden Governor Dikko Radda Para-Games Schools Competition. This two day athletic event is designed to bring together young students with special needs, providing a dedicated showcase for their resilience and physical talent. Abdullahi Bello-Rawayau, the Executive Director of the council, confirmed the initiative during a ceremony held to distribute essential sporting equipment to the various participating institutions, marking a significant shift toward organized para-sports at the school level.

Selected Specialised Schools Prepare For Historic Debut

A total of six specialized institutions have been designated to participate in the upcoming competition, which is scheduled to begin next week. The roster includes the School for the Blind at Kofar Yandaka, the School for the Deaf in Malumfashi, and the Community Secondary School for the Blind in Daura. Additionally, the School for the Deaf and Blind at Kofar Soro will field athletes, alongside specialized para-soccer teams from both Government College Katsina and Katsina College Katsina, ensuring a diverse range of disciplines and participants.

Strategic Focus On Grassroots Talent Identification

Beyond the immediate goal of regional competition, the event is being framed as a vital pipeline for future athletic stars. Zaharaddeen Nasarawa, the program consultant, described the games as a strategic platform designed to uncover hidden talents that have previously lacked exposure. By providing a structured competitive environment, the state hopes to identify athletes who can eventually represent Katsina at both national and international para-sporting events, bridging the gap between local school sports and professional excellence.
