Property Damage and Pursuit
The incident began on the evening of Monday, March 2, when deputies from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding a protective order violation. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a male suspect had caused significant damage to both a residential home and a vehicle. Before deputies could secure the scene, the individual abandoned his car and fled into the surrounding terrain on foot.
K9 Trucker’s First Success
Faced with a fleeing suspect, deputies deployed K9 Trucker to lead the search. Utilizing a "scent article" retrieved from the suspect’s abandoned vehicle, Trucker initiated a track that spanned several different environments. The K9 navigated through residential backyards and across an open field, maintaining the trail despite the outdoor conditions.
The pursuit concluded when Trucker led deputies into a "thick cutover" area a region of dense, low-growing vegetation. Trucker successfully located the man hiding within the heavy cover, allowing deputies to make the arrest without further incident. The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office highlighted the event as a milestone for the K9, noting it was Trucker’s first successful apprehension track since entering service.
