Targeted Interdiction Along the Tangaza Corridor
A coordinated security operation in Sokoto State has led to the successful apprehension of three individuals believed to be integral members of a local banditry cell. The arrests took place at approximately 10 am on April 29 along the critical Tangaza, Gidan Madi transit route. Security sources indicated that the mission was prompted by credible intelligence reports suggesting an imminent strike planned for the surrounding communities, allowing operatives to intercept the suspects before any offensive could be launched.
Identification of the Detained Suspects
The suspects have been identified as Aliyu Bello, aged 30, Dahiru Umar, aged 25, and Bashar Isah, aged 29. According to reports provided to security expert Zagazola Makama, all three men are originally from Kwazari village located within the Kware Local Government Area. The group was intercepted while traveling on a motorcycle, a common mode of transport used by armed groups to navigate the rugged terrain of the North West region.
Arsenal Recovered During Search Operations
Upon stopping the suspects, security forces conducted a thorough search and discovered a cache of concealed weaponry. The items recovered included one locally manufactured AK-47 rifle equipped with a magazine containing 17 live rounds, two Dane guns, and two 32g cartridges. To evade detection at checkpoints, the suspects had allegedly hidden the firearms inside a sack, which was further placed within a larger bag, along with various charms believed to be used for protection.
