Vance Stands by ‘Great Guy’ Orbán

U.S. Vice President JD Vance addressed the fallout of the Hungarian election on Tuesday, insisting that his high-profile campaign visit just days before the vote was the correct move. Despite Viktor Orbán’s decisive ousting after 16 years in power, Vance described the former Prime Minister as a "great guy" who was uniquely willing to challenge the "bureaucracy in Brussels." While acknowledging the "landslide victory" of the opposition, Vance signaled that the Trump administration is prepared to work with the incoming government, despite the diplomatic friction caused by the Vice President’s direct intervention in the campaign.

Magyar’s Mandate for Constitutional Change

Péter Magyar and his Tisza party have emerged from the election with a powerful "super-majority," reportedly securing 137 of the 199 seats in the National Assembly. This two-thirds majority grants Magyar the legislative authority to alter the Hungarian constitution and systematically reverse the legal and judicial changes implemented during the Orbán era. Magyar has criticized the outgoing administration for creating a "puppet" presidency and has called for the immediate resignation of President Tamás Sulyok to facilitate a total transition of power.

A Pivot Toward European Integration

The incoming Prime Minister has outlined a radical shift in Hungary’s relationship with the European Union. Describing the nation as currently the "poorest and most corrupt" member of the bloc, Magyar pledged to establish an Anti-Corruption Office and a National Asset Recovery and Protection Office. His first major diplomatic priority is to join the European Public Prosecutor's Office and unlock approximately 17 billion Euros in frozen EU funds, as well as an additional 16 billion Euros in defense loans that were stalled due to concerns over democratic backsliding and the rule of law.
