Lethal Drone Strike in Southern Lebanon

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed that an explosive drone launched by Hezbollah struck a group of soldiers in southern Lebanon on the morning of April 26. The attack resulted in the death of Sgt. Idan Fooks, a 19-year-old member of the 7th Armored Brigade’s 77th Battalion. Originally from Petah Tikvah, Sgt. Fooks is the third Israeli serviceman to be killed in the northern theater since the formal commencement of the current ceasefire agreement.

Casualties and Emergency Medical Evacuation

In addition to the fatality, the strike caused significant injuries to several other personnel on the ground. According to military reports, one officer and three soldiers sustained serious wounds, while two other troops were classified as being in moderate and light condition, respectively. The wounded were targeted while operating in the town of Taybeh, a location that has remained a flashpoint for kinetic activity despite the diplomatic efforts to maintain a 10-day humanitarian pause.

Secondary Attack During Rescue Operations

An IDF probe into the incident revealed a coordinated effort by Hezbollah to disrupt the evacuation of the wounded. As medical teams were working to stabilize and transport the casualties, Hezbollah launched two additional explosive-laden drones at the site. Israeli air defenses managed to intercept one of the incoming UAVs, while the second drone struck the ground near the forces. The military reported that this secondary wave of the attack did not result in any further injuries to the personnel involved in the rescue operation.
