Interception of fragmentation munition

On the evening of March 7, 2026, an Anadolu correspondent reported hearing loud explosions following the sighting of an Iranian cluster missile in the skies above Jerusalem. The Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth confirmed that a very limited barrage had been launched from Iran and was fully intercepted by the nation’s air defense systems. The intercepted projectiles reportedly included at least one fragmentation missile, a type of munition designed to scatter debris or smaller submunitions upon detonation to maximize surface damage.

Widespread activation of sirens

The missile launches triggered air raid sirens across a broad geographic area of the country. Warning systems were activated in central Israel, including the Gush Dan and Sharon regions, as well as in Lachish, Beka'a, Samaria, and the Jerusalem district. Residents were forced into shelters for several minutes as the defense systems engaged the incoming threats. Despite the intensity of the audible explosions, the Home Front Command later downgraded the alert level once the threats were successfully neutralized.

IRGC claims new strike wave

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a statement through Iranian state media claiming responsibility for a new wave of missile strikes against Israel. This latest escalation follows a week of persistent exchanges between the two nations, which began with a joint United States and Israeli military offensive on February 28. The IRGC characterized the launches as part of a continued retaliatory campaign intended to challenge Israeli aerial superiority and respond to the deaths of senior Iranian leadership figures.
