Strategic Partnership Aims to Drive Continental Artificial Intelligence Literacy
InnoPower Africa and Luma Learn AI have announced a major collaborative effort to expand access to artificial intelligence tools and education throughout the continent. The Nigeria-led initiative, recently inaugurated, is designed to deepen digital inclusion and ensure that African populations can participate in the rapidly evolving global technology ecosystem. According to Chris Folayan, the co-founder of Luma Learn AI, the partnership is driven by an urgent need to close the technological gap before it further limits Africa's international competitiveness.
Infrastructure Gaps Challenge Growth in Projected Multi-Billion Dollar Market
The expansion of AI literacy comes at a critical time as Africa's AI market is expected to be valued between 16 billion dollars and 18 billion dollars by the end of the decade. However, significant hurdles remain, as nearly 40 percent of people on the continent still lack reliable access to broadband internet. Folayan warned that failing to adopt these transformative technologies quickly could widen existing development gaps. The initiative focuses on underserved learners who have historically been overlooked by traditional educational systems.
WhatsApp Based Tutoring Reaches Thousands of Students in Multiple Languages
The Luma Learn AI platform has already demonstrated significant reach, supporting over 160,000 students and delivering more than 4.8 million learning sessions. By utilizing WhatsApp to provide personalized tutoring, the service bypasses some of the traditional barriers to digital education. Currently available in 11 different languages, the platform aims to make AI-powered learning tools inclusive and accessible to children and families who lack access to high-end hardware or specialized computer labs.
