High Speed Maneuver Leads to Violent Rollover

A 7:10 p.m. commute turned into a localized disaster in Elkhart County when a driver, identified as Victor Millan Soto, reportedly attempted to pass another vehicle in a designated no passing zone. According to sheriff's deputies, Soto was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed between County Road 9 and County Road 11 when he lost control of his vehicle. The car rolled multiple times before coming to a rest on its roof, causing significant damage to the vehicle and inflicting traumatic injuries on its occupants.

Critical Injuries Sustained by Young Passenger

The impact of the crash was particularly severe for a child passenger, Liam Garcia, who was riding in the vehicle at the time of the rollover. Emergency responders initially transported Garcia to Elkhart General Hospital, but his condition required a transfer to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for specialized care. Medical evaluations revealed that the child suffered a significant laceration to his leg, as well as multiple brain bleeds and skull fractures, highlighting the extreme physical force involved in the accident.

Evidence of Intoxication and Field Sobriety Failure

Upon arriving at the scene, investigators observed several indicators that Soto was operating the vehicle while intoxicated. Deputies administered standardized field sobriety tests, which Soto reportedly failed before being subjected to a certified breathalyzer examination. The results of the test showed a breath alcohol concentration of 0.110, which sits well above the legal limit in Indiana. These findings prompted an immediate arrest and the filing of several preliminary alcohol related charges.
