Precision Strike on the Hezbollah Secretariat

The Israeli military has announced the successful assassination of Ali Yusuf Harshi, a high-ranking Hezbollah official who served as the personal secretary and advisor to the group’s leader, Naim Qassem. Harshi was killed during a precise airstrike on Wednesday in the Tallet Khayat neighborhood, an area of Beirut situated outside the traditional Hezbollah stronghold of Dahiyeh. According to military statements, Harshi was not only a close confidant but also Qassem's nephew, playing a vital role in the management of the Secretary-General’s office and personal security. The strike resulted in the partial collapse of a multistory residential building, marking a significant breach of the inner administrative circle of the organization.

The Scale of Operation Eternal Darkness

The elimination of Harshi was part of a broader, intensified military campaign dubbed "Operation Eternal Darkness" by the IDF. Launched on April 8, 2026, the offensive involved the simultaneous targeting of over 100 sites across Lebanon within a ten-minute window. This massive escalation occurred just hours after a fragile ceasefire was announced in the wider regional conflict involving Iran. According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, the strikes resulted in the deaths of at least 254 people and left over 1,100 others injured, with hospitals in Beirut reporting a catastrophic influx of casualties from densely populated commercial and residential districts.

Severing Hezbollah’s Southern Logistics Arteries

In addition to the high-value assassination in the capital, the IDF conducted strategic strikes against Hezbollah's logistical infrastructure. Overnight, Israeli jets destroyed two "central" crossings over the Litani River. The military asserted that these routes were being used by Hezbollah to move thousands of weapons, rockets, and launchers into southern Lebanon. These strikes are part of a systematic effort to isolate the border regions and prevent the rearming of militants, following accusations that the group had used the recent humanitarian pause to reposition military assets. Since the start of the current offensive, Israel has targeted at least seven key river crossings to sever the link between the northern Bekaa Valley and the southern front.
