The Shebaa Operation and Fatal Misidentification

A specialized operation in the southern Lebanese village of Shebaa turned tragic overnight when Sgt. First Class Guy Ludar, 21, was killed by friendly fire. Ludar, a member of the Commando Brigade’s elite Maglan Unit, was part of a team raiding the village at approximately 3:00 a.m. to apprehend a suspect accused of assisting Hezbollah. According to an initial IDF probe, a fellow soldier mistakenly identified Ludar as a fleeing suspect and opened fire, killing him and seriously wounding another commando. Despite the incident, the mission was completed, and the suspect was successfully captured and transported to Israel for interrogation.

Escalation in Beirut: Targeting the Quds Force

While ground operations continued, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) launched precision strikes against high-value targets in Beirut. The military announced it successfully destroyed command centers belonging to the Quds Force, the elite extraterritorial arm of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). These centers specifically housed the "Lebanon Corps," which serves as the primary liaison between the Iranian regime and Hezbollah’s military leadership. Additionally, two command centers belonging to Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) were struck; the IDF noted these sites were critical for senior PIJ officials to coordinate strategic decisions with Hezbollah.

Strikes on Tyre and Border Crossing Warnings

The IAF renewed its bombardment of the coastal city of Tyre on Saturday, following localized evacuation orders for specific high-rise buildings. Reports indicate that an 11-story building was leveled in the strikes, and a five-story building was partially destroyed. In a significant strategic move, IDF spokesman Col. Avichay Adraee issued an urgent warning regarding the Masnaa Border Crossing between Syria and Lebanon. The military accused Hezbollah of using the crossing to smuggle weaponry and warned of an imminent strike, calling for all civilians to evacuate the immediate vicinity.
