A Major Boost to National Emergency Care

In a significant contribution to Ghana's healthcare infrastructure, businessman Ibrahim Mahama has announced the repurposing of one of his private jets into a dedicated air ambulance. The aircraft, famously known as the Dzata Jet, departed Ghana on Friday, April 3, 2026, to undergo extensive technical modifications. Once completed, the plane will be equipped with advanced life-support systems and specialized medical care equipment designed to handle high-priority emergency evacuations and critical care transit across the country.

The Transition from Private Luxury to Public Utility

The decision to convert the aircraft (registration N604EP) follows Mahama’s recent update to his private fleet. In March 2026, the owner of Engineers and Planners took delivery of a new Bombardier Global 6500, which had been undergoing its own custom modifications since its acquisition in 2024. Rather than retiring or selling the previous jet, Mahama opted to transition the vessel into a public health asset. Speaking after the delivery of his new aircraft, Mahama emphasized that the move was motivated by a clear need to improve the accessibility of emergency healthcare for the general population.

Advanced Medical Specifications for the Dzata Jet

The specialized modifications will transform the cabin into a mobile intensive care unit. The jet is expected to be fitted with the latest medical technology, including specialized monitoring systems, ventilators, and surgical lighting necessary for mid-flight interventions. This upgrade is intended to fill a critical gap in the country's current medical response capacity, allowing for the rapid transport of patients from remote regions to major medical hubs in Accra and beyond.
