The Original Search Warrant
The catastrophic events began on August 26 of last year when the Wangaratta Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team arrived at Freeman’s Porepunkah residence.
The Intent: Officers were executing a warrant to search Freeman’s electronic devices following allegations of historical sex offenses, including sexual exposure.
The Ambush: During the search, Freeman opened fire, fatally shooting officers Vadim De Waart-Hottart and Neal Thompson, and seriously injuring a third officer before vanishing into dense bushland.
Seven Months on the Run
Freeman’s 216-day evasion of justice was one of the largest manhunts in Australian history.
