A Relieved Arrival in the Cuban Capital

The successful docking of the two sailboats in Havana marks the end of a tense week-long journey for the Nuestra America (Our America) convoy. The vessels departed from Mexico's Isla Mujeres on Saturday, March 21, and were originally scheduled to reach the Cuban coast by mid-week. After missing their expected arrival window, the boats were reported missing on Thursday, prompting a regional search effort. A maritime surveillance aircraft eventually spotted them approximately 80 nautical miles northwest of Cuba on Friday, confirming that all crew members were in good health.

The Mission of the Nuestra America Convoy

The sailboats are part of a broader international effort to mitigate the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Cuba. The Nuestra America coalition is an expansive network of nearly 300 organizations from over 30 countries, including NGOs, labor unions, and political representatives. To date, the group has successfully delivered approximately 20 tons of aid through both air and sea channels. The current shipment includes:

Medical Supplies: Essential medicines and first-aid equipment.

Nutritional Aid: Food staples and baby formula.
