Lethal Impact at Tera Ahmed Bus Stop

A catastrophic traffic incident during the early hours of Saturday has left a trail of destruction along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos. According to official reports from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, a high speed collision occurred at approximately 2:36 a.m. near the Tera Ahmed bus stop in Sangotedo. The accident involved a heavy duty tipper truck and a gas tanker, resulting in an immediate and violent fire that quickly spread to the surrounding commercial district.

The Mechanics of a High Speed Disaster

Preliminary investigations by state authorities indicate that the tragedy was caused by a 20-tonne tipper truck traveling from the Epe axis at excessive speed. The vehicle reportedly rammed into the rear of a 30-tonne gas tanker that had come to a halt on the highway without successfully pulling off the road. The force of the impact breached the tanker’s integrity, sparking a blaze that consumed both vehicles almost instantly. While the operator of the gas tanker managed to escape the scene without physical harm, those within the tipper truck were unable to evacuate.

Commercial Infrastructure Lost to the Blaze

The resulting inferno extended its reach beyond the roadway, engulfing a significant portion of the adjacent business strip. Fire officials confirmed that three warehouses and ten roadside shops were completely razed by the flames. Among the affected businesses were a local gymnasium and a generator house, representing a substantial loss for the Sangotedo commercial community. Emergency crews from the Lekki Phase II, Oniru, and Epe II fire stations were deployed in a coordinated effort to suppress the rapidly moving fire.
