Early Morning Arrest at Lancaster Park

A routine patrol by the Gassville Police Department led to the arrest of a registered sex offender found in a restricted area during the early morning hours. Officers discovered Jeremiah Selfridge in a vehicle with two other individuals at Lancaster Park at approximately 12:40 a.m. on Tuesday. When questioned regarding his presence in the park after hours, Selfridge reportedly claimed his vehicle had overheated. However, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office stated in a media release that investigators found no corroborating evidence to support this claim, leading to his immediate detention.

Violations of Sex Offender Restrictions

Due to his status as a Level 3 or 4 registered sex offender, Selfridge is legally prohibited from entering public parks. His presence at Lancaster Park constitutes a significant violation of Arkansas registration requirements designed to keep high-level offenders away from public recreational spaces. While two other occupants were present in the vehicle at the time of the stop, authorities confirmed that they did not face charges in connection with the incident.

Altercation and Battery at Detention Center

The situation escalated significantly once Selfridge was transported to the Baxter County Detention Center. According to jail officials, the suspect refused to comply with standard booking instructions and staff directives. The encounter turned physical when Selfridge reportedly used force against jailers attempting to restrain him. This altercation resulted in a charge of battery on an officer and a third-degree assault charge, further complicating his legal standing and increasing his bond requirements.
