Terrifying Testimony On The Pali Puka Trail

Jurors in Honolulu heard a harrowing account from Arielle Konig as she described the moments she believed her life was ending during a hike meant to celebrate her birthday. According to her testimony, the excursion on Oahu’s Pali Puka Trail was intended to help the couple work on their marriage following a period of marital strain. However, the situation turned critical when Gerhardt Konig allegedly grabbed her and attempted to force her toward the edge of a steep cliff. Arielle told the court she was forced to cling to nearby vegetation to prevent herself from being pushed over the precipice.

Allegations Of Premeditated Violence

The prosecution’s case includes startling claims regarding the tools of the alleged attack. Arielle Konig testified that during the struggle, she observed her husband holding a medical syringe and commanding her to "hold still." After she successfully knocked the device away, she alleges he retrieved a large rock and used it to strike her in the head approximately ten times. She informed the jury that she remained conscious throughout the ordeal, screaming for help in hopes of alerting other hikers before she could be dragged over the edge.

Intervention By Passing Hikers

The assault reportedly concluded only when two other hikers arrived on the scene and immediately contacted emergency services. Audio from the 911 call played for the court captured the urgency of the moment as a witness reported a man actively trying to kill a woman. Upon the arrival of the hikers, Gerhardt Konig allegedly fled the scene on foot, prompting a massive manhunt by the Honolulu Police Department. He was apprehended later that evening and has remained in custody without bail ever since.
