Hospital Defends Transparency Protocols Amid Scrutiny
Hadassah Ein Karem Hospital in Jerusalem has issued a formal denial regarding accusations that it misled the public concerning the health of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The controversy erupted after the Prime Minister officially acknowledged on Wednesday that he had undergone treatment for prostate cancer earlier this year. Following this admission, the hospital confirmed the diagnosis was made several months ago, noting that the Prime Minister received radiation therapy approximately ten weeks prior to the public announcement.
Conflict Over Unofficial Press Inquiries
The dispute intensified following claims by Channel 12 health reporter Yoav Even, who stated he questioned the hospital about Netanyahu’s medical status ten days ago. According to Even, the hospital did not provide an official response but suggested unofficially that no significant medical events were being withheld from the public. The reporter has characterized this interaction as a deliberate falsehood, given that the Prime Minister was recovering from cancer treatment during the period the inquiry was made.
Institutional Responsibility for Medical Privacy
In a retaliatory statement, Hadassah insisted that it has maintained a policy of total truthfulness while navigating the complex intersection of medical ethics and public interest. The medical center clarified that its primary role is the provision of high-level care and that the responsibility for publishing details from a prime minister’s personal medical file remains with the Prime Minister’s Office. The hospital maintained that it cannot unilaterally release sensitive patient data, even when that patient is a high-ranking government official.
