Targeted Assault on Barbaji Village

The Barbaji community in the Jajaye Ward of Rogo Local Government Area, Kano State, was thrown into chaos on Thursday night following a targeted attack by suspected gunmen. Around 9:00 p.m., four armed men arrived on motorcycles, dressed in khaki uniforms, and proceeded directly to the shop of a local vigilante member identified as Alasan Yellow. According to local sources, the gunmen shot Yellow at close range in front of his establishment, an act that triggered immediate panic among the residents. A bystander who attempted to intervene during the initial assault was also shot by the attackers.

Indiscriminate Shooting at Vigilante Office

Following the initial shooting, the attackers moved toward a nearby vigilante office, where they began firing indiscriminately. The sudden escalation of violence forced residents to abandon their homes and seek safety in the surrounding areas. Alhaji Haruna Barhaya, the Commander of the Rogo vigilante group, confirmed that one individual died at the scene due to the severity of their wounds. The swiftness of the attack suggests a deliberate effort to neutralize local community security figures, a tactic increasingly seen in regional insurgent activities.

Medical Emergency and Casualty Reports

Commander Barhaya briefed local authorities, noting that four individuals are currently receiving treatment for various degrees of injuries sustained during the raid. While local security personnel assisted in the evacuation, one victim remained in critical condition and was subsequently referred to a specialized hospital in Gwarzo for advanced medical intervention. The remaining survivors are being monitored at nearby facilities as the community grapples with the aftermath of the violence.
