Severe Physical Assault Reported in Pitt County

A domestic dispute in Grifton escalated into a life-threatening encounter on Tuesday, resulting in the arrest of a local man. According to warrants from the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office, 50-year-old Wesley Brown launched a physical assault on his girlfriend, striking her repeatedly in the head and near her rib cage. The violence intensified when Brown allegedly placed his hand over the victim's mouth and nose, obstructing her breathing to the point that she blacked out. Law enforcement responded to the scene following reports of the disturbance, leading to Brown’s immediate apprehension.

Threats of Violence and False Imprisonment

The investigation revealed that the physical assault was accompanied by explicit death threats. Court documents indicate that Brown told the victim he was going to kill her if she did not leave the premises. However, despite these demands, Brown allegedly used physical force to restrain the woman, actively preventing her from escaping the residence. This contradiction of threatening her to leave while simultaneously holding her captive formed the basis for the false imprisonment and communicating threats charges filed by investigators.

Larceny and Interference with Communication

In an effort to prevent the victim from seeking emergency assistance, Brown is accused of seizing her cellular phone. According to the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office, the misdemeanor larceny charge stems from this intentional removal of her property during the height of the altercation. By taking the phone, Brown allegedly isolated the victim, a common tactic in domestic violence cases intended to delay or block law enforcement intervention.
