Marama Davidson opened the address by framing the Middle East conflict not as an abstract foreign policy issue, but as a direct driver of domestic hardship. She characterized the war as a "human catastrophe" that has exposed the fragility of a small nation tied to corporate-led global systems.
Davidson argued that the soaring costs of food, energy, and rent are symptoms of a fossil-fuel-dependent economy that treats ordinary people as an afterthought. "The warnings about fossil fuel dependence... were not abstract concerns," she stated. "They are what families across this country are living through right now." She called for a principled, independent stance on the international stage to uphold human rights and environmental protection.
The National Electrification Plan
Chlöe Swarbrick followed with the centerpiece of the party's policy platform: a mandate to "electrify everything." The proposed National Electrification Plan aims to transition homes, transport, and industry to homegrown, natural energy sources—specifically sun, wind, water, and geothermal power.
