A Warning to Political Agitators
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has declared that his administration will maintain a "zero-tolerance" policy toward individuals or groups attempting to destabilize the state’s fragile peace for political gain. Addressing the heads of security agencies during a Ramadan breaking-of-fast (Iftar) on Monday evening, Sani warned that the approach of the 2027 election cycle specifically the primaries scheduled for April and May 2026 often serves as a catalyst for "conflict merchants" to spread discord. The governor noted that while political competition is healthy, using it as a pretext to trigger ethno-religious crises will not be condoned under his watch.
Distinguishing Criticism from Falsehood
A central theme of the Governor's address was the distinction between democratic opposition and the deliberate spreading of misinformation. Sani clarified that his administration welcomes constructive criticism from the opposition but will act decisively against "situations where the opposition spread falsehood in order to foment crisis." He specifically targeted the use of social media by individuals "sitting in the comfort of their homes" to disseminate rumors. "Freedom of speech is not a license to spread fake news that will lead to loss of lives and property," Sani stated, adding that such actions would be prosecuted within the ambit of the law.
Preserving Kaduna’s Diverse Harmony
Governor Sani reminded the gathered security chiefs that Kaduna’s demographic makeup is both "diverse and delicate," requiring a high level of vigilance. He credited the current absence of ethno-religious crises since he took office to a policy of inclusivity and hospitality. To maintain this, he urged security agencies to deepen their intelligence gathering by forming stronger synergies with local government chairmen, traditional rulers, and religious leaders at the grassroots level. He stressed that a proactive approach is necessary to prevent politicians who "play the victim" after losing primaries from inciting their followers through calculated lies.
