A Statutory Foundation for Energy Reform
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has detailed a comprehensive plan to modernize the electrical landscape of Delta State, leveraging new regulatory powers to bypass historical energy bottlenecks. The ratification of the Delta State Electricity Law and the formal endorsement of the State Electricity Policy have provided the executive branch with a robust legal mandate to manage sub-national power challenges. According to the Governor, these policy mechanisms allow the state to move beyond traditional dependency on the national grid, facilitating a more localized and responsive approach to infrastructure development. This legislative shift is intended to create a sustainable environment for long-term investment in the regional power sector.
Restoring Power to Historically Neglected Zones
The administration’s "MORE Agenda" has already resulted in the reintegration of several communities that had been without electrical supply for over a decade. During the commissioning of the Ohoror–Bomadi Road, Oborevwori highlighted that systematic interventions are currently focused on historically marginalized localities. By extending 33KV overhead lines and deploying dozens of new distribution transformers, the government is actively reversing years of systemic neglect. These upgrades are not merely technical; they are designed to unlock fresh commercial prospects and elevate the standard of living for residents in rural and peri-urban clusters.
Strategic Infrastructure Upgrades and Modernization
Specific engineering projects are currently underway across various local government areas to stabilize the state's power distribution. In the Warri South-West region, the government is installing six distribution transformers and extending high-tension lines to serve the communities of Ode-Itsekiri and Ugbodede. Simultaneously, in Ughelli North, a critical 2.5MVA transformer at the Agbarha-Otor injection substation has been upgraded to a 5MVA capacity. These technical enhancements are crucial for maintaining the load required to support growing industrial and domestic demand, ensuring that newly reconnected areas do not suffer from immediate system overloads.
