The "Australian Model" for Fuel Security
The upcoming deal is designed to ensure a reliable "extra buffer" for the country without placing undue fiscal risk on the taxpayer. Under this arrangement:
Private Purchase: Petroleum companies will continue to buy the fuel directly.
Government Risk-Sharing: The Crown will take on the financial risk of shipments that might otherwise be economically unviable due to volatile global markets.
Infrastructure Boost: Willis confirmed that 90 million litres of additional storage capacity will be operational at Marsden Point by the end of May 2026.
