Automated Itineraries and Intelligent Price Monitoring
Google’s Search platform now features a dedicated AI Mode with a "Canvas" tool that serves as a digital travel agent. Users can describe their ideal vacation, and the system generates a full itinerary including flights, hotels, and local attractions visualized on an interactive map. Complementing this is an expansion of price tracking features. Previously limited to city-wide trends, users can now monitor specific hotel listings globally. Signed-in users in English and Spanish will receive automated email alerts for significant rate drops, allowing for strategic booking at optimal price points.
The Rise of Agentic Commerce and Local Assistance
A significant shift in Google’s strategy is the introduction of "agentic" capabilities, where AI acts on behalf of the user. In the U.S. and several international markets—including the U.K., India, and Canada—AI Mode can now manage restaurant reservations by searching availability across platforms like OpenTable and Resy. Furthermore, Google is rolling out a feature that uses Duplex technology to call local retail stores. This allows travelers to find specific items, such as polarized sunglasses or prescription replacements, by having the AI conduct real-time phone inquiries to confirm local stock and available deals.
Conversational Discovery with Ask Maps
Google Maps has evolved from a navigational tool into a conversational advisor through "Ask Maps." Powered by Gemini, this feature handles complex, qualitative queries that traditional search filters cannot, such as finding campsites that offer both specific photography spots and clean amenities. The system synthesizes data from 500 million contributors to provide insider tips. Available in the U.S. and India across mobile and desktop platforms, Ask Maps allows users to transition instantly from discovery to action, such as adding a location to a list or starting a navigation route.
