1. Renewables: A Milestone in Global Capacity
New data from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) reveals that renewable energy accounted for 49% of installed power capacity globally by the end of 2025. This represents a staggering 15.5% annual increase, adding 692 gigawatts (GW) to the world's grids.
Solar Dominance: Solar energy led the charge, accounting for 75% of all green additions (510 GW).
Wind Power: Contributed an additional 159 GW.
Economic Resilience: IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera noted that renewables comprised over 85% of all new power added in 2025, proving their competitiveness against volatile fossil fuel markets.
