Reinvigorating Bay South Gardens
Singapore’s iconic Gardens by the Bay is set for a significant transformation. Minister of State for National Development Alvin Tan announced on Wednesday the development of "Wetlands by the Bay," a 5-hectare attraction that will triple the current mangrove collection at Kingfisher Wetlands. Featuring over 600 mangroves and coastal plants, the site represents the first major expansion of Bay South Gardens since its opening in 2012. The project is designed to enhance visitor engagement while reinforcing Singapore's "City in Nature" vision through a blend of high-tech art and ecological conservation.
A Flagship Experience with teamLab
The centerpiece of the new development is a flagship museum by the world-renowned art collective teamLab. Moving beyond traditional gallery spaces, this museum will feature a unique multi-sensory pedal kayak experience. Visitors will navigate through immersive installations that blend natural landscapes with digital art, providing a tactile way to explore wetland habitats. This collaboration builds on the success of the "Future World" exhibition at the ArtScience Museum, positioning Gardens by the Bay as a global hub for digital-nature fusion art.
Revitalized Dining and Community Spaces
A major component of the redevelopment is the transformation of the popular food court, Satay by the Bay. With the current operator’s lease expiring in December, Gardens by the Bay plans a "refreshed waterfront dining experience" that maintains affordable ground-level food court options while adding casual eateries on an upper deck. Additionally, the project introduces "Glade Lawn," a 3,500 sq m community space dedicated to large-scale events. A new canopy boardwalk will also be constructed to provide seamless connectivity between the Gardens by the Bay MRT station and the main attractions.
