Apprehension in Waterbury

A coordinated effort between federal and international law enforcement resulted in the arrest of Danny Antonio Granados-Garcia, a Salvadoran national and suspected MS-13 gang member. The FBI’s New Haven field office tracked Granados-Garcia to Waterbury, Connecticut, where he was taken into custody without incident on March 10. The arrest was facilitated by an Interpol Blue Notice and an active Salvadoran warrant for aggravated homicide.

The El Salvador Connection

The charges against Granados-Garcia stem from the violent murder of a pastor in El Salvador. According to FBI Director Kash Patel, the victim was a relative of a member of the Salvadoran national police force. MS-13, known for its brutal tactics, often targets the family members of law enforcement as a means of intimidation and retaliation. FBI LEGAT San Salvador provided the critical intelligence necessary to identify Granados-Garcia as a fugitive residing within the United States.

Law Enforcement Response

"MS-13 members are notorious for their brutality, violence, and intimidation," said P.J. O’Brien, Special Agent in Charge of FBI New Haven. O’Brien emphasized that the FBI remains steadfast in its pursuit of gang members who attempt to hide in American communities to escape justice for crimes committed abroad. The agency reiterated that this arrest is part of a broader commitment to disrupting the operations of transnational criminal organizations.
