The Great Escape
Arison’s childhood in Tbilisi was defined by the looming collapse of the USSR. While his peers were fed state-sanctioned media, Arison leveraged his great-grandfather’s military privileges to access "forbidden" frequencies.
Media as a Mentor: He perfected his English by watching CNN and C-SPAN, even memorizing every member of Congress by age 12.
The "Smuggled" Application: In 1992, just as the Soviet Union dissolved, Arison used the only public fax machine in town to send his boarding school application to Maine, USA.
The Immigrant Grind: Upon arriving in the U.S., Arison worked multiple jobs, often finishing shifts at a campus cafe at 4 a.m. before heading to class just a few hours later.
A "Reality Check" for Gen Z
