A Milestone for the Truck Series

After three decades of competition, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is venturing into uncharted territory: the streets of St. Petersburg. Held as part of IndyCar’s high-profile opening weekend, the inaugural street race has attracted one of the most eclectic and decorated entry lists in recent memory. By combining traditional stock car veterans with world-class open-wheel and sports car specialists, the event promises a technical and physical challenge unlike any other on the 2026 calendar.

Legendary Names Return to the Cockpit

The headline entry for the weekend is undoubtedly Dario Franchitti, who will pilot the #1 TRICON Garage Toyota. A four-time IndyCar champion and three-time Indianapolis 500 winner, Franchitti is a master of the St. Petersburg layout, having won there in 2011. While he has limited NASCAR experience, his return to professional competition at age 52 has captured the attention of the global racing community. Joining him is fellow IndyCar star and fan favorite James Hinchcliffe, making his NASCAR debut in the #77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet. Hinchcliffe, a previous winner at St. Pete, brings invaluable street racing expertise to the field.

Sports Car Veterans and Famous Lineages

The field also features Colin Braun, a former NCTS winner who has spent the last 15 years becoming one of the premier drivers in IMSA. Braun, a three-time IMSA champion and Le Mans class winner, will drive the #25 Kaulig Racing entry. Another notable name on the grid is Adam Andretti, nephew of the legendary Mario Andretti. Following a successful debut at Atlanta just one week ago, Adam continues the famous family's racing legacy in the #5 TRICON Garage Toyota, looking to translate his Trans-Am street racing experience into a top finish.
