Steady Momentum in the French Gaming Landscape

The French regulated gambling market demonstrated resilient growth throughout 2025, with gross gaming revenue (GGR) rising to €14.1 billion. According to the l’Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ), this 3% year-on-year increase aligns France with the broader European market trajectory. The expansion was fueled by a combination of robust online betting performance, steady state lottery returns, and a significant rebound in the traditional casino sector following previous years of fluctuation.

Digital Betting Segments Lead Market Growth

Online gambling emerged as the standout performer of the year, with GGR jumping 8.5% to reach €2.617 billion. This segment now accounts for 18.5% of the total French market. Sports betting remains the dominant force within this digital category, generating €1.766 billion in GGR—a 10.4% increase. Football and tennis were the primary drivers of betting volume, collectively accounting for nearly 80% of the increase in total stakes, which reached over €11.5 billion.

Diversification of Player Behavior and Participation

The market saw a significant rise in player engagement, with unique online players increasing by 7.5% to 4.2 million. A notable trend identified by the ANJ is the 25% surge in "multi-activity" players—users who engage across multiple segments such as poker, sports betting, and horse racing. Online poker specifically saw its player base grow by over 15%, with revenue rising to €525 million, a growth entirely attributed to increased participation in tournament play.
