Coordinated Assault on Mussa Ward

A violent incursion by suspected Boko Haram terrorists has left five people dead in the Mussa community of Borno State. The attack, which occurred at approximately 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, targeted the village within the Askira/Uba Local Government Area. Local authorities confirmed that the casualties included four Nigerian soldiers and a local woman who was caught in the crossfire during the invasion.

Military Resistance and Casualties

The Chairman of the Askira/Uba Local Government, Mada Saidu, officially confirmed the incident on Thursday, identifying the civilian victim as a female resident. Military sources disclosed that the fallen soldiers were attached to the 115 Task Force Battalion. According to these sources, the troops engaged the insurgents in a fierce gun battle to prevent the attackers from penetrating deeper into the town center. While the insurgents were reportedly few in number, their tactics were described as highly coordinated.

Panic and Displacement Among Residents

Witnesses in the area reported hearing intense gunfire for at least 30 minutes, sparking immediate panic throughout the ward. "We were hearing serious gunshots, and many people began to flee their homes," one resident stated, noting that the suddenness of the afternoon attack forced many to abandon their properties and seek safety in nearby bushes. Community members believe the swift military resistance likely prevented the insurgents from completely overrunning the town.
